Looking to solve welding fume extraction problems?

IAP Fume extraction arm Filtration Assembly

When looking to solve welding fume extraction problems, it’s good to keep in mind that not every application is the same. In fact, applications are more often different than the same. So, when you’re looking for a company to provide solutions for your unique welding fume extraction application, you should expect them to be creative and for their products to be adaptable to their creative ideas.

This is exactly what we try our best to do at IAP Air Products. We understand that cookie cutter products, though are great to have, should not be the end of our product offering or the end of the capability of our products. We design our products to have the capability to be used in applications that are unique to you.

For example, we recently worked with a local school on their fume extraction application. They understood that source capture was the best option for them but they, like most schools, are on a budget. Instead of quoting them a “cookie cutter” product that would have been:

- (1) Fume Arm

- (1) Fan

- (1) Motor Starter

- (1) Filter

- X (8) Works Stations

We were able to save them thousands of dollars by combining 2 arms to each fan and using a small amount of duct work to connect them together.

This article by IAP, describes how a fume extraction arm outperforms a canopy hood in welding & industrial applications. It covers a real-world example; comparing airflow efficiency, flexibility and control. A side by side comparison is included.

When evaluating a welding fume extractor, it’s easy to be drawn to large CFM numbers. What often isn’t clear is where that airflow is measured. In many cases, those numbers are tied to motor ratings, not the airflow available at the hood where fume capture actually occurs. This article helps explain this.
